The Journey, how much more?

How much more?

By the time I had shown that I had no warrants for my arrest, I swear that I was close to being over.  No.  No, I wasn’t close enough.  Janes Social Worker and the Adoption Specialist thought it would be good for me to continue going to the classes and going to the advanced class called OFR (Options for Recovery). So, no emergency placement for me.  Jane stayed in her foster home.

It seemed like it took forever, but I finally finished the classes, and the day finally came.  I swear I was smiling from ear to ear.  It was one of the best days ever.  Her foster mother dropped her off, and we were she could start adjusting to one another and her new surroundings.  It was amazing how well she fit in.

It wasn’t long after she had been home when I decided my one-bedroom cabin was too small for the two of us.  There was a two-bedroom apartment that opened up, and I put in my request to rent it.

When we were approved, I felt like I had accumulated a lot of stuff—way more than I had when It was just me.

Finally, it was moving day.  We got all our stuff in the new apartment, and I felt like I had absolutely nothing.  I kept Jane in my bedroom until I got her a giant crib. It felt good to be home, finally.

Things were smooth from there on for a little while.  The summer of 2018 was sweltering.  We had had very little rain.  It made life a little challenging at times.  We also found out that the bio mom was pregnant again with my brother’s baby.  I knew that I was going to be getting another baby.

August was Janes first birthday.  She had a small family birthday party at the park, loved her cake.  As babies do, she smashed the cake all over herself and her highchair.  It was a total success.

September brought baby Jimmy.  I brought him home straight from the hospital.  He, too, was drug-exposed.   He slept a lot.

It was a hot September and October.  Halloween was great.  Jane was a ladybug with a tutu, and jimmy was a kitty.  Jane was a little sick.  She did a few houses.

November 8, 2018, I woke up, and it was windy.  I noticed that a lot of people were running back and forth from their houses to the cars. There was a fire close. I didn’t think much of it until the manager came and told me that we were on a mandatory evacuation.

I will leave it here for now.  I will try and post what I wrote about the whole experience in the next couple of weeks.  Stay tuned.
