Well, here we go with our first blog post—a momentous day for me. I have been giving this post a lot of thought, and I came up with nothing for much of the time. Where did I want to start? What would “they” want to hear? Would they be interested in anything I have to say?
The beginning! Okay, not the literal beginning, but I will start with where I am coming from. If you read the About Us page, you know about my kids and where I live. I am 58 years old and a single recovering alcoholic. I lost my kids, my dignity, and all my belongings away. I spent about three years homeless. A lot happened to me while I was lost, and I may go into some of that because it wasn’t all bad, but we will wait and see. Let me know if that is something you are interested in reading.
Addiction is a horrible thing. You get caught up in it, and it consumes you. It took being beat up times in three weeks and a police officer who refused to let me go back to what put me in the emergency room to sober up. I am so grateful for that police officer and a dad and stepmom who let me move home. I would probably be dead if I didn’t take the chance I was given at that time.
I had some severe health issues to deal with. It was a long road of recovery, both physical and emotional. I had broken ribs, a puncture in my duodenal that caused fluid to go into my stomach cavity. That lead to a series of abdominal surgeries the following 4 years. I healed just in time to Foster my niece 13 months later my nephew who I later adopted.
The Fost/Adoption process was a long process. Life with Jane and Jimmy has been full of ups and downs and I will write more about that as time goes on. I will also touch on our experience evacuating Paradise CA and my PTSD and how I am coping with that.
I look forward to sharing our past, present and future with you and sharing what I am learning about Autism. I am also still a foster parent and will share how that is going. See you next Thursday.
